Explore Early Careers Programmes available in Horseracing
If students are considering working directly with animals or in a career linked to sport, the Horseracing industry has several Early Careers programmes to get them started in a rewarding and exciting career.
British Horseracing Development Programme
This Programme, which has been running for over 30 years, provides an invaluable source of talent to the sport of Horseracing. Applications open each November and close at the end of February. The Programme starts with a free two week residential introduction course and is followed by paid placements for at least 8 weeks over the Summer. It is suitable for candidates who have completed Degrees, Higher Apprenticeships or have equivalent skills and capabilities.
The Racing Media Academy provides a pathway into Horse Racing for those who love the idea of working in racing but can’t necessarily, or don’t want to ride or work directly with horses. The Racing Media Academy gives its students the opportunity to undertake work experience and training within racing’s top media houses including Sky Sports Racing, Racing TV and the Racing Post. An intensive week’s training has been designed at the British Racing School, where students will get an insight into the world of Horse Racing and learn about the different areas of the media. Applications for 2023 will be open shortly.
Entry to Stud Employment Programme
If you want to work directly with horses, take a look at the opportunities available in the Thoroughbred Breeding industry. The National Stud, based in Newmarket, offer a 9 week residential period of training that upon completion leads to a 6-9 month paid work placement at a UK stud farm. During this time you will complete a Level 2 Work Based Diploma in Racehorse Care (Breeding Option). Applications are now invited.
