Year 8 Work Shadowing Day

Tuesday, 11th July, this year, is designated Year 8 Work Shadow Day.

As part of our commitment to careers education Tuesday, 11th July, this year, is designated Year 8 Work Shadow Day.
Students will not come to school on this day and instead will gain an experience of the workplace, by shadowing an employee.

They can shadow family members in their workplace or can look to organise a one-day placement with an employer of your choice.
They will be completing a number of activities after this experience as part of their Form Time programme, in order to reflect upon their placement and to think about their future pathways.

WHY?

Gatsby Benchmark 6

Every student should have first-hand experiences of the workplace through work visits, work shadowing and/or work experience to help their exploration of career opportunities, and expand their networks.

By the age of 16, every student should have had at least one experience of a workplace, additional to anypart-time jobs they may have.

Consent
The letter takes you to a link for a google Parental Consent Form.

https://forms.gle/NcyoACpwbb8F8My37

This needs to be completed by a parent/carer so that students have permission to take part.

Without this, students will not be able to complete the work shadow day and will have to come into the school as normal.

A completed Parental Consent Form must be submitted by Monday 19th June 2023

Frequently Asked Questions

We work in an environment that is not suitable for young people. What do we do?

Students can shadow another family member, or a family friend. Or they can find a one-day experience with an employer.

We work from home. What do we do?

This is still a valid work place experience and students can shadow a parent/carer in their home-office environment.

My child is not interested in pursuing the same career as us. What do we do?

Again, this is still a valid work shadow experience. It might help students to confirm their future choices or they may recognise some transferable skills.

What happens if we can’t organise a workplace day? Or, we do not give consent?

Students should come into school. Normal lessons will not run, so they will be supervised in a classroom to complete some work-related study.
